THE "SMOKO"
In the evening the visiting team were entertained at a " Smoko" by the Kaipara Union in the Star Theatre, when about 80 footballers and supporters sat down to a nicely laid out supper. The hall was nicely decorated. In the absence of the chairman, Mr A. M. Hammond occupied the chair. In his introductory remarks he congratulated the visitors on their well deserved win on the football field, and said more visits from the Otamatea Union would be more appreciated by the local Union. He expected in the near future for the Union to have better grounds to play their matohes on, as the local facilities at present were quite inadequate. Songs and items were contributed by Messrs K. Stewart, H. Mather, C. Morrison, Wi Davis, M. McGarvey, J. Hyland and A.. M. Hammond. Mr Kjnna Stewart officiated at the piano. The following toast list was gone through: "The King," proposed by the Chairman ; " The Visitors," proposed by Mr Matheson, responded to by. Mr Hyland ; " Kaipara Team," proposed by Mr Leckie, responded to by several of the visiting team.; "Kindred Sports," proposed by tb,e Chairman, responded to by Messrs Stanaway (bowls), T. D. Johnson (cricket) and .M. Matheson (Tennis); "The Ladies," proposed by Mr Hunter, responded to by Messrs Bryce and Mcßride ; " Referee's Association," proposed by Mr H. Mather, responded to by Messrs J. Downer and W. Mouatt; "The Press," proposed by Mr J. D. Johnson, responded to by Mr M. J. Spear.
