OTAMATEA B. (3) v. KAIPARA B.(5).
As a curtain-raiser to th« above match both teams fought hard for victory, and it was only in the latter half of the game, by a fluky kick by McGarvey, from a try scored by Andrews, tha victory was snatched from the visitors. On the play Otamatea certainly deserved a win. In scrum and back play the visitors outclassed their opponents. The game was fast and open throughout. The combination of the visitors was good and they gave a clean exhibition of Rugby. Ingram scored for the visitors and his try was well deserved ; Stewart failed to register. Of the backs for Kaipara, McLeod and Wi Davis stood out on their own, and in the forward division, perhaps C. Drinnan and Smith were the pick. For the visiting team A. F. Stewart was the most prominent player in the back dtvision. All the forwards worked hard.
Mr Abraham refereed and his prompt decisions gave satisfaction to players and spectators alike.
