DEPUTATIONS TO THE PREMIER.
Hon. Mr Massey has decided to receive deputations only on Mondays and Thursdays, owing to so much of his time being taken up with interviews. As a matter of fact deputations are often concocted in country centres by public men as muoh for a free trip to Wellington as any other reason. I remember (says a casual scribe) the chairman of a small local body addressing a public meeting, when he said : "I and Mr -
wero successful in interviewing the Premier and the Minister of Public Works, and getting promises that our needs will be attended to. The coat to the ratepayers will be under £30." (Deafening applause.) Mr Massey said last week that much ot the deputations' business could be done as well through the members, but experience has taught that the members acknowledge a letter, and usually nothing more is heard of the matter referred to.
