WHAT HAS THE FARMERS UNION DONE?
i Members of the Union, not in touch with the work of the Provincial Executive, often ask the question, I 'What has the Farmers Union done ?' j The Union has issued a pamphlet showing just what it has done in the farmers' interest. Heve are some of the achievements claimed : The systematic organisation of farmers (a) for mutual protection ; (h) for the advancement of agricultural, pastoral and other branches of farming; ( c ) for the better education of rural children ; (d) for the propor recognition of the importance of the farming industry. The establishment of co-operative freezing WO rks, butter factories, shf-epodipping yards, etc. The improvement of dairy herds C») by its advocacy of herd testing (since extended by the establishment of herd-testing asbooiations worked in C 01.3 unction with dairy division of the Department of Agriculture); (b) by co-operating in the appointment of veterinary surgeons in various districts for the control of of diseases among stocks. Indue-v.i the Government to investigate and analyse deposits of limestone m various localities. urged the establishment of a Board of Agriculture for the Dominion; the Dominion President of the Union being appointed by tne lioverament as the first president.
