FOOTBALL.
The football match, Helensville A. v, B. teams, set down for last Saturday afternoon on the local show grounds, fell through for want of supporters. Sides were chosen by Messrs Sykes and Becroft and an interesting display of Rugby was witnessed, though many of the players lacked " form." Sykes' team proved superior and won by 20 points to 5. Sykes kicked a penalty goal in the early stages of the game and Stewart followed this up by scoring immediately after. Sykes failed to register. Sam Davis, Sykes (2) and Maxwell also scored, Sykes, Lispcombe and Jas. Pengelly each failing to register. Montgomery scored in the second spell tor Becroft's team and Wright registered the major points. Mr Logan McLeod carried the whistle.
A team will be chosen from the following to represent Helensville against Glorit at Glorit on Saturday : Baker, Lipscome, L. Sykes, A. Becroft, Stewart, Wright, V. McLeod, Johnson, J. Pengelly, R. Stone, Montgomery, O. Olsen, G. Geldard, Aitkenhead, Agassiz, D. Simcock, Tony Antonovich, M. Hafford, Fteve Costovich. The launch will leave the railway wharf at 10 a.m.
A meeting of those interested in football was held at Kaukapakapa last week, when about 25 were present. It was decided to form a club this year, but doubt was expressed as to whether a senior team would be available. On Saturday last a practice match was held in Mr Drinnan's paddock when over 20 players took part. Very promising form was shown by many of the players, and with the necessary practice, a very fair team can be put into the field.
