CRICKET.

LOCAL CLUB FORMED

The meeting called for Monday evening was attended by about ten cricket players and supporters, who made up in enthusiasm what was lacking in numbers. Rev. P. Bridge occupied the chair. The question of forming a cricket club was discussed, Mr N. Wallace remarking that the team that won the several matches played last season was an orphan, having been dependent on other club's grounds and material. He proposed that a club be formed, to be called the Helensville Cricket riedThe matter of a suitaole ground was discussed. It was not considered advisable to wait until the proposed park became a reality, and the meeting thought that Mr F. W, Strange's generous offer of an ideal area on his property was too good to miss, and the offer was accepted. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Strange. A concrete pitch was considered most suitable, and after going into cost, it was decided to put down same. • - Those present —Messrs Wallace, Johnson, Strange, Cullens, Stewart, Fenner, Claridge (seore■Jdtvy pro tern) and Rev P. Bridge-ware-formed into a working or management committee, which jf'will carry on until the annual meeting takes place, prior to the opening of the season. Messrs Wallace and Strange were appointed delegates to .the Town Board park conference. • The question of raising funds -^for putting down the concrete pitch and purchasing material, was flispussed. Mr J. T£. Stewart offered to giye the Club a picture sight, proceeds (after paying expenses) to go to the Club.
