DISTRICT NEWS

KAUKAPAKAPA.

[Own Correspondentl

On Sunday last the Harvest Festival services in connection with the Presbyterian Church were held. Rev. J. Louden, of Morningside, was the preacher for the day, and his interesting addresses were listened to by good congregations, Fruit and produce had been given in good quantities by many friends, and the church was prettily decorated. The fruit, etc., was afterwards donated to Rev. Jeffries' Home in Auckland?-Mrs Sinclair ably presided at the organ for the services.

On Saturday last the Kaukapakapa Cricket Club played the return match with Makarau, on the local ground. The first match had been won by Kaukapakapa, who were again victorious. We hope to give the full scores next week.

We bear that Rev. J. H. Edmondson, who was formerly in charge of the Methodist Church mission work in this district, has resigned from the ministry and intends to reside in Helensville. Mr Eclmondson has, since leaving Kaukapakapa, been in charge at; Port Albert, and his place;>there will betaken by Rev. H. Orchard, of Wark worth.

The annual picnic of the Sunday school at Wainui was held on Saturday last in the paddock adjoining the church, kindly lent by Mr Lamont. Quite a good number of children and friends were present, and a really good time was spent by all. The school, which is undenominational, is in charge of Mr and Mrs T. Hellyer, and is filling a long-felt need in the district by * doing splendid work.

Quite a number of motor cars are now to be seen in the district, and those who are still old-fash-ioned enough to prefer a horse have to be very careful. Most of the motor drivers are thoughtful and careful enough, but one or two seem to be asking for trouble. Motor cyclists in particular need to learn not only the rules of the road, but the rules of common courtesy. Young men, take notice, please.
