ANGLICAN CHURCH BAZAAR
VERY SUCCESSEUL
The members of St. Matthew's Ladies' Guild are to be congratulated on the very successful bazaar and sale of work held in the Agricultural Hall on Saturday last. Both they and the Anglican community "in general have reason to be pleased with the financial results, as the sum of £140 is available for handing over for the purpose for which the bazaar was held —liquidating the debt on the vicarage. The bazaar was formally opened on Saturday afternoon by the vicar, Rev. Clement Honchen, and a large attendance was recorded, with children predominating through" out the afternoon. The Christmas tree, loaded with very many attractions, was the children's chief delight, and the attendants did record business here. The refreshment rooms also did a thriving trade, while the " snips " on the various stalls were soon bought up by the bargain hunter. In the evening the crowd was a large one, and a brisk business was done all round. A number of competitions were run, and the übiquitous raffle promoter (by special permission of the Minister of Internal Affairs, be it noted) did exceptionally good business. The raffles, when drawn under the supervision of Constable Hunt, created great interest. At the close of the bazaar, a quantity of produce and a number of fancy articles were auctioned by Messrs Screaton and Bradly, and brought good prices.
The Guild ladies, who were chiefly responsible for the big collection of articles for sale, worked hard to make the bazaar a success, and were materially assisted by their capable secretary, Mrs J. Vercoe,
