HELENSVILLE FINANCIAL.
[By " Wayfarer."]
To the passing stranger Helonsyille seems a dull and quiet little township. But, dip beneath the surface and investigate the financial aspect, and you will find it one of the finest towns in New Zealand for its size. The success in this direction may be traced to several sound sources. The small stock owner is one that
tends to the division of profits, and the number of men in and around Helensyille who are wholly dependent on outside ear ploymsnt is very small. Nearly everyone is an owner of stock or property of some kind, and the horse, cattle and sheep sales held regularly at Helensville divide the wealth in such a way that nearly everyone, directly or indirectly, benefits in the circulation of hard cash. Another source of steady income, which is also well divided amongst a large number of men, comes from the Kaipara Heads and waters within the Bay, where fish are found in plenty. In the early dawn of an October morning: it is nothing unusual to see six or eight launches loaded to the water line, winding round the bends to catch the early train for Auckland. The term " muddy Kaipara " is often heard, but in the mud of the Kaipara there is a fortune that will be made use of gome day soon. Instead of im* porting slag, superphosphates, and such stuff, put the mud back on the hill and ridges where it rightly belongs, and you will find it one of the finest fertilisers this or any other country could produce.- There is a body in this material that is required for your ridges and bare patches. The results will show you the theory
is sound
