RESIDENTS BALL
AT KAUKAPAKAPA.
The long looked for Ball, tendered by the residents of Kaukapakapa to the returned soldiers of this and other dis- , tricts, was held last Friday evening, and proved a marked success. Settlers . and.;, returned men from all over the district attended, and it is estimated that when: the grand march was started, eightycouples were on the floor. The grand marcK was led off by returned men, headed by Mr "Pat "Hooper, D.C.M.^ and Miss Hooper. The hall was taste-V fully decorated with greenery, fid wers, and flags, and looked a picture, traiujf-V. forming the otherwise bare structure into a cosy place. The music, supplied; by Bartley's orchestra of six instruments/; was good and proved an incentive to dancing, which was kept up with vigour ' until 4 a.m. In fact, so keen were the f dancers thot several "extra extras" were called for during the evening. An excellent, well-managed, and plentiful supper of trifles, jellies, cakes, etc., was provided by the ladies of the" district, who are undoubtedly experts in this particular line. Both ladies and gentlemen's committees are to be congratulated on the gratifying success achieved by their endeavour in honouring the . returned boys of the district.
