SALE OF WORK
A Sale of Work in connection with the local Anglican Church was held on Thursday last in the Kaukapakapa Hall. An energetic ladies committee, under the guidance of Mrs Goodwin, had been busily preparing for some time past by holding regular sewing afternoons. As a result a good display of articles were on sale, whilst various side shows added their attractions to the s^ale. In the! evening shooting competitions were held, and a dance finished up the proceedings. It is anticipated that a satisfactory amount will be added to the funds of the Church as a result of the sale.
RESIDENTS' BALL
A committee meeting to make arrangements for the forthcoming Ball was held on Saturday evening. Mr Dye presided over a large attendance. It was arranged to obtain the orchestra from town, the musicians to come up by Friday's train. Strong sub-committees were formed to arrange the preparation of the hall and floor. Judging from the interest shown iti the district, a very successful time is assured on Ball night. The function is on the 7th November, not the 10th as erroneously announced.
YOUNG PEOPLE'S SOCIAL
The second quarterly young people's social took place on Monday evening last in the Kaukapakapa Sunday school, There was a very fair attendance, and the games, etc., were heartily joined in by everyone. An observation competition created much amusement, the ladies describing the gentlemen, and vice versa, whilst in different rooms, Some very good descriptions resulted and some rather far fetched. During the evening Mrs Pascoe gave a splendid humorous recitation, causing much laughter, and Mr Koller gave a reading on Love, Courtship, and Marriage, containing many hints for those present. | Songs were rendered by Miss Jones and Rev. Pace. A dainty supper was handed round by the ladies at the close of the evening. Opportunity was taken during the proceedings to bid farewell to | the sons of Mr Scott of Brookside, J who were leaving for their new | home the following day, The rest of the family are to follow i later. Mr Pace, on behalf of all present, expressed regret at their departure and wished them all suocess in their new venture. DISTRICT'S PROGRESS. This district is quite a busy place at the present time. Many of the farmers are busily employed top-dressing, and there seems to be every prospect of a good season, A fire-wood mill has. just been erected by Mr Fewell in the station reserve and business is apparently brisk. • Work has also started on Mrs Ilenley's top farm, where the pines are to be felled. Mr King, of Wainui, with his sons, has completed the preliminary arrangements, and the trees will soon be down. The logs are to be sent to Qnehunga, so this will mean extra work for the *' snailway," TENNIS AND CRICKET. The local Tennis Club is to be re-organised, and an early start made with practice. The district contains a number of promising players, and a real good club may beexpected. At a recent meeting it was also decided to start the Cricket Club again, and the first practice took place on Saturday last, but the players were disappointingly few in number.
