The services on Sundar next at St. Matthew's Church, Helensville, will be conducted by Canon Williams, of Auckland.

In anticipation of the restoration of the train services on Monday last, an engine awaiting its load in the Helensville cleaning shed got restive early on Monday morning, and tried to get away, breaking through the end of the shed. Mr Ben Bayley, eldest surviving son of Mr G. T. Bayley, of Auckland, owner of Wharepapa Estate and other farms throughout the province, was killed as the result of a motor accident at Epsom on Monday afternoon. His injuries were such that death must have been instantaneous. Deceased was a member of the 24th Reinforcements, and was vary well known throughout the Northern Wairoa. He was a cousin of Messrs Harold and Gordon Mather, of Glorit.

The ball to bs held tlm evening in aid of the local Show funds promises to be a very successful function in every way. Strong and energetic committees have arrangements completed, and patrons may rely on spending a very pleasant time. The usual appurtenances to .a successful function of this kind—floor, music, and supper—have b«en paid special attention. As the funds are to be devote:! towards lessening the Association's overdraft, it is anticipated that resident's and settlers, having this object in view, will attend in large numbers.

Betty is much concerned as to the fate of her father who will become homeless, and she. adopts a clever device to provide for him, A very dramatic situation arisea when Betty, trying to conceal the fact'that her father is still in the castle, plays the ghost and gets shot by the owner, who is in love with her.
