PEANUTS OBJECTED TO.
Peanuts prohibited in the circle, is the notice occupying a very conspicuous position in an Auckland picture theatre. "The peanut habit " was formerly confined to the occupants of the cheapest seats in the "movie" houses, but latterly the patrons ot the dress-circle " have taken to chewing peanuts—and, incidentally—to scattering the shells all over the floor. Hence the notice already referred to. In the London theatres the frequenters of the pit are wont to regale themselves on oranges, and in the American theatres not only are enormous quantities of peanuts consumed by "the gods," but lemonade and ginger-beer is freely partaken of by the latter which recalls the story of the New York theatre in which a placard hung above the piano (which did duty as orchestra) bearing the following inscription : Ihe audience is respectfully requested to refrain from throwing ginger beer bottles at the musician. He is doing his best,"
