An announcement. of special interest to farmers appears in this issue from Messrs Levy Bros., well-known seed growers of Waikumete. This firm specialises in a particular seed mixture for the North, as well as other lines of seeds. All seeds are • machine dressed and tested, and settlers who conptemplate sowing are advised to write for samples.

At a recent meeting of the Citizens' and Settlers' Ball Committe, a very satisfactory balance sheet was presented, showing a credit of £37. This amount goes to the Soldiers' Memorial Fund. The committee are to be congratulated on the very satisfactory results achieved, and likewise on the prompt manner in which accounts were settled.

The Helensville A. and P. Association have decided to hold a Ball in the Agricultural Hall an Thursday, October 2nd, with the object of raising funds and reducing the overdraft. The prices of tickets have been fixed as follows : double 12s 6d, gentlemen 7s 6d, ladies ss. A strong committee to carry out details has been appointed, of which Mr R. In spite of the extremely unpleasant weather, about fitty people attended the euchre tournament and dance held by the Anglican Church Ladies' Guild in the Star Theatre on Thursday evening last. All spent a pleasant time, and were repaid for braving the clement. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs Eames and Mr VV. J. Ellett, while prizes for being the best last were, awarded Mrs Andrews and Mr R. Hinton. Dancing was kept up till midnight, and an abundant supper was handed round by the ladies.

The Acting-Registrar of Electors, Mr A. Frood, was in Helensville on Monday for the purpose of making arrangements in connection with the forthcoming general election, which it is expected will take place during the second week of December, providing nothing untoward happens in the meantime. Only one polling booth will be used at Helensville on this occasion, viz., the Courthouse, as experience has proved that two booths are quite unnecessary. Mr A. H. Spinley has been appointed deputy returning officer for Helensvillee. The actingregistrar left on Tuesday for a tour through the electorate. He has before him a big task to perform, in visiting the 70 odd places where polling booths will be necessary.

Buying and selling frying-pans was taken up as a side line by an enterprising resident during the week, and as a result of some shrewd speculation, it is understood that a few more shillings -have been added to the amount in the stocking, especially kept for reducing the high cost of living. The first purchase was a modest two pans, at a surprisingly low rate, and the lucky buyer had only got a few yards along the street when he got a customer at a substantial rise. Going back to the seller, he asked for more, and bought a dozen at the same price as the first pair. He reckons he can easily sell the lot at a good profit.
