SAD FATALITY.
DEATH OF MR A. MASON. An accident, unfortunately attended with fatal results, occurred on the Helensville-Parakai Road on Monday evening last, whereby Mr Archie Mason, the well-known owner of Crosslands Estate, received injuries which caused his death at the Helensville Hospital ori Tuesday afternoon. From what can be gathered, deceased left Helensville on horseback for his home shortly after 6 o'clock on Monday evening, and was later found in an un-1 v conscious condition on the road near the Parakai Hall, by Mr J. Stanaway, who was driving back to Helensville. Mr Stanaway lifted the injured man into his vehicle, and brought him into the hospital, where Dr. Meinhold attended him. The injuries proved to be most serious, the unfortunate man having sustained an extensive fracture at the base of the skull. In addition the whole head and. face was badly bruised and disfigured. Dr. Carrick Robertson was summoned from Auckland, and arrived about midrday on Tuesday. An operation was immediately performed, but the patient passed away without regaining consciousness. On Tuesday evening the coroner (Mr W. R. Fosbroke) and jury viewed the body. Formal evidence of identification was taken, and the inquest adjourned till Saturday afternoon next. The early morning train on Wednesday conveyed the remains to Auckland, en route to Wanganui, where the funeral will take place. The late Mr Mason, who has been in "this district for the pa3t two and a-half years, was the owner of the well-known Crosslands Estate. Deceased was very popular, and was well spoken of by all with whom he came in contact. He was a member of the general committee of the Helensville A. and P. Association, - and an exhibitor at the Shows, and took a keen inteiest in district matters generally. Deceased leaves a wife, three sons, and one daughter to mourn their loss, and a host of friends as well who will sympathise with them in their cad . bereavement. .
