A WOOLLEN MILL WANTED.

[ understand that an attempt was made not long since to raise capital for the establishment of a woollen mill in Auckland, but that the scheme fizzled out, being considered too hazardous by many of the speculators approached. Experts say that no woollen mill could be a success in N.Z. without an adequate supply of labour—female labour, more especially. And labour is not to be had. Just recently it* was suggested that the Government should establish a State woollen mill in Auckland. But the labour difficulty again barred the way, and the project fell to the ground. This is a pity, because a good woollen mill, either Government owned or privately run must have reduced the price of woollens locally, at all events. However, one leading authority here says the present worldshortage of suitings, blankets, and so forth, will not last very much longer. Let us hope he is a true prophet.
