The Kaipara & Waitemata ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE" HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, AUGUST 14. HELENSVILLE DOMAIN.
ONE of the finest assets that Helensville and district possesses exists in the Hot Springs at Parakai, and it must be admitted that this fine attraction is very much neglected-— both by Helensville residents and people in other parts. For the local inhabitants there is no excuse for such neglect. A good road runs out to the Springs, and for those who do not care to walk (or cannot), an excellent motor-service is at hand. The pleasures of walking would be improved certainly, by the formation of a good footpath for the whole distance. But the chief complaint of both those who visit the Springs (and those who do not) seems to be that sufficient attention is not paid to the grounds and baths by the Domain Board. The baths certainly want renovating and modernising, and the. grounds, although looking well at present, are capable of a good deal more improvement. But, we understand, the neglect to brinp: the place up to date is not entirely the fault of the Board, which i 6 handicapped by the want of funds to carry out the much needed improvements. Ajudicious scheme of making known the attractions of the Springs would be advisable, and the recommendation of the Hon. W. Russell that the Board advertise in tourist guides and in railway timetables, or anywhere where tourists and health seekers would see such information, is well worth following. There is no reason at all why the Helensville Domain should not be made more attractive than Te Aroha. When that is done we are sure that visitors from the city and elsewhere will find it more worth their while to travel the comparatively short distance to Helensville than to journey to Rotorua or Te Aroha.
