DISTRICT NEWS.

KAUKAPAKAPA.

| OWN CORRESPONDENT |

Last Thursday evening an enjoyable time was spent in the Kaukapakapa Hall. A lecture had been arranged to be delivered by Rev. J. W. Shaw, M.A., Presbyterian Minister of Mt. Eden, on " Scottish Humour." Owing to the vagaries of the Railway Department, however, Mr Shaw was not able to obtain a permit to travel, so a concert; was arranged instead. Rev. Butter" worth gathered round him a number of local friends, who, assisted by Miss Wilson of Helensville, were able to fill uo the evening in a very pleasant way. After the programme was concluded, a dainty supper was handed round to all. The proceeds were in aid of the Organ Fund for the Kaukapakapa Presbyterian Church.

On Saturday last the concluding session of the first quarter of the Men's Social Club took place. According to the rules, most of the officers vacated their positions, and new ones were elected. The outgoing committee were able to report a very successful quarter. The attendances had been good, and had kept well up to the avei*age. . The sessions had all proved very enjoyable and many of them and instructive. Various suggestions were made as to the future arrangements, details of which will be made public later on.

The Kaukapakapa Bible Class held its usual meeting last Tuesday, when the subject of amusements was discussed. A fair number of members attended, and much interest was shown. The question was tackled by the leader, Mr F. C. Pace, after one or two papers had been read. Some very plain speaking was indulged in, and at the close questions were invited.

We hear that great preparations are in hand, for a Sale of Work, with many original features, to be held in December, on behalf of the •'Methodist Church. If what we hear is correct, it should prove a most successful function.

No more done re clearing the "Long Paddock" yet, and making use of the Pound. Surely the offenders* have not too much influence in the district for the matter to be remedied. Who knows!
