Only a small audience greeted the " Topsy Turvey " Company at Helensville last Friday evening, a fact which caused the manager to comment on the apparent indifference of Helensville people to what is, in his own words, "the best vaudeville show at present touring Australasia." The disappointed speaker no doubt lost sight of the fact that the night was a stormy one, it was also the late shop night, and that insufficient publicity, combined with the other two causes, accounted for the slump in the box office receipts. The manager mentioned that a return visit might be paid at some future date.

A reminder that the Fancy Dress Masquerade Ball takes place Monday evening next in the Lyric Theatre is hardly, necessary. Since the outbreak of war dancing locally has boen confined to socials and parties, and a ball on an elaborate scale, such as is promised for Monday nitfht, will be eagerly welcomed by all dancing enthusiasts. A first-class Auckland orchestra has been engaged, and the catering is also in charge of a city firm. Numerous fancy dresses are being created for the occasion, and the fact that all dancers have to be masked will lend a touch of novelty and mystery to the proceedings. Spectators will be admitted to the gallery only.
