UNITED PEACE SERVICE
In compliance with the King's request, a united service was held on Sunday afternoon last in the Lyric Theatre. Although snch short notice was received (the official instructionsonly heing issued on Friday), a la-ge number of people were present. The churches were represented hy Revs. Venables (Anglican), Butterworth (Presbyterian), and Pace (Methodist), and Mr Skelton (Church of Christ). The prayers were read by Rev. Venables, whilst Mr Skelton read the lesson. Addressed were given by Revs. Pace and Butterworth. The former's address was specially to the children, and the speaker dwelt on the lessons to be learnt from the war, illustrating his remarks with many stirring stories. He warned the young people that if they were to be worthy of the sacrifices which had been made, they must live out in their every day lives the principles for which our brave boys fought. Rev. Butterworth, in a well thought out address, spoke of the need not only of thanksgiving to God, but also of greater faith and trust in the Almighty, and above all, the renewed consecration of our lives to Him who had brought us safely through the perils of war, and led us on to victory.
A feature of the service was the singing of the choir, under the leadership of Mr White, who also ably presided at the o?gan.
