DEAD-SHEEP SKINS
S., To Kuiti—Kindly give me a receipt for a cheap preparation for removing #ie wool from dead sheep skins. Would the wool be worth more if shorn off than sold on the skins ? The Live-stock Division—Eor removing wool off dead sheep skins a cheap and efficient preparation is as follows: Mix lib caustic soda with 2 gallons water. Add sufficient slacked lime to make a good thick paste. Paint this mixture on the flesh side of the skin with a swab or whitewash-brush immediately after skinning. Afterwards fold the skin and leave until next day, when the wool can be easily removed. C ire should bo taken that the nJxture does not get on the hands. It does not pay to ehear " dead " skius, the pelts being of practically no value. Woolly skins give a better return, seeing that an all-round price is obtained for the pelt and the wool.
