SCALE-INFESTED LEMON TREES.
Inquirer, Rapaura—Kindly let me know the reason why the skins of my lemons go black and rough ; also "why the leaves of the tress have a black sooty appearance, and kindly indicate the remedy.
The Horticulture Division—Your lemon trees are evidently infested with scale iusecte. The insects are now in a dormant state, and an insecticide of sufficient strength to fe^ll them would injure the trees. The young scale will hatch out in October, and the trees should then be sprayed with red-oil emulsion, 1 in 40. The sooty matter is the excreta of the insects.
