RE FERTILIZER-DILUTION

SUBSTANCE.

The attention of the Department (says the Journal of Agriculture) has been called to a substance purchased by a Northern farmer for the purpose of diluting fertilizers. This, on analysis, was found to consist of approximately equal parts of ground limestone and carbon, the latter probably derived from coal. The price charged was £4 10s par ton, and the farmer reports that the price has since beon increased to £6. Tho matter is being further investigated, but in the meantime the facts are published for general information.
