SHORTAGE OF HOUSES
So acute is the house-shortage becoming that I understand Government is being urged to erect small dwellings for the benefit of the people, but whether anything will be done in the matter is questionable, having regard to the present price of building materials and labour. Before the war 2000 building permits were issued annually in Auckland, and its suburbs. The average number of permits granted annually during the past four years was 147 —and most of these were fcr repairs.
