A LIVELY TIME.
A party_of Aucklanders met with quite an exciting experience the other day. They started in to extract the honey from a bees' hive, and the bees showed fight. This was unfortunate for the attackers because, the day being warm, they were very lightly attired, and wore neither shoes nor stockings. One chap said the proper way to get the honey was to smoke the bees out. And when the whole hive of them settled on his naked foot he was sorry he had made the suggestion. jHis language, as Bret Harte's "Truthful James" would say, was " painful and free," and the rate at which he covered the distance between the hive and the sea constituted a record. As the reward for their joint efforts the party obtained about sixpenworth of honey and about 248 stings. The bees had the best of it.
