ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS

(Prom the Journal of Agriculture),

HOW TO MAKE BASIC SUPERPHOSPHATE.

C. Stewart, Oparua.—■ Please tell me how to make basic super? Do you use burnt lime or crushed and what proportion of lime to superphosphate ?

The Fields Division. —To make basic superphosphate mix thoroughly 1 part by weight of ground burnt lime with 6 parts by weight of super, or 1 part by weight of ground limestone with 3^4 parts by weight of super. The equivalent in phosphoricacid content of 3cwt superphosphate would be 3^cwt basic superphosphate, if burnt lime is used in making; or 3cwt 961b if ground limestone is used.
