THE INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
SITUATION WELL IN HAND
THE epidemic has now got a, fair hold in Helensville, bujJ^ not in such a severe form as miPf the cities, and the fatal cases are very few, thanks to the untiring energies of Dr. Meinhold, whose work is very heavy indeed, his district extending from Port Albert to Riverhead. The Chairman of the Town Board, Mr Jas. Stewart, is devoting his time to welfare of the township, with, regard to sanitation, and in making arrangements for the proper care of the patients. The Helensville Private Hospital has been taken over, and fitted up as a temporary hospital. The inhalation room at the Railway Station is being well patronised by local residents, and the travelling public are compelled to go through the process of inhallation before leaving the platform. The Kaipara Steamship Co. is seriously affected by the large number of their men being down with the epidemic. The Company have turned the s.s, Oatea into a temporary hospital ship for the accommodation of these men, and all are progressing favourably. On enquiry to-day we are in~ , formed that eight patients have so far been admitted to the temporary hospital, and all. are reported as doing well. To assist during the epidemic Mr Raisher will be in attendance at the Town Board office daily ' 9 to 10 a.m. (Sunday and Monday excepted), Tuesdays and Thursdays 2to 5 p.m. Telephone 73. Three members of the Town Board, Messrs Coutts, Johnson, and West are laid up with the prevailing epidemic ; all are reported to be doing well.
