RED GROSS EFFORT.

HELENSVILLE QUEEN CARNIVAL. The Art Union Committee states that the Mystery Packet effort brought them in the substantial amount of £82 15s, which means the sale of 1655 parcels at' 1/-. The winner of the Ist prize (cheque for £5) was Miss Jtena Bishop, who kindly remitted the cheque back to the Committe for the Red Cross Fund, for which they wish to thank her very much. * * * The Committe wishes to thank the following ladies, Mesdames Walters, A. E. Allen, and Mirams, for the way they worked in helping to make the Effort such a big success. * * * To-night, the 31st, the Helensville Art Union will be drawn. Tickets are still available at 1/each. The Ist prize is 20 Farmers' Union shares fully paid up, carrying 7 to 8 per cent interest; 2nd prize, a tailor-made suit from Mr Coulter; 3rd prize, a pendant (lady's), value £5 10s, from Mr Ketterer, (on view in Mr Walter's window). Now is your last chance to buy tickets. All for the Cause. * # # A very successful Garden Party was held in the lovely grounds of Mrs James Stewart's residence on Saturday afternoon in aid of the Red and Gold Queen. Various stalls, guessing competitions, afternoon tea, and the fortune-telling tent were well patronised, the proceeds amounting to over £54. ♦ ♦ * The Minstrels, direct from Sydney i Tivoli, repeated (by request) their entertainment on Monday evening before a large audience. The first part was practically the same as before, while the second part was considerably added to by a lady visitor singing a patriotic song (during which a collection was taken up amounting to £6 10s). Dance and supper followed, the takings exceeding £24. ~'. * * * On Wednesday the Winding-up Social was held, when there were a good number present. Songs I and instrumental items, interspersed with dancing, were enjoyed by all present. An auction iof all things left brought a good sum. A very hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Miss Rimmer for kindly consideration in giving all fees charged by her during the Carnival season to the funds. * * ' * The drawing of the big Art Union takes place this (Thursday) evening.
