Mr Jas. Stewart has received cable advice from Codford Hospital that his son, Kinna, is now convalescent. Kinna left with the 40th Reinforcement, and was one of the sufferers from the epidemic aboard the troopship, which caused 75 deaths and the sending of 141 to hospital on arrival.

The Red Cross Committes (Helensville Effort) will complete collection Friday and Saturday of waste products. It would be appreciated if householders would give what they could in the way of bottles, bones, sacks, clean tins; sound clothing can also be dealt with.

The raising of money for the Helensville Queen is steadily forging ahead. Tickets are now out for a monster Art Union, (with no less than 18 prizes), and are only Is each. The drawing takes place at,£he Lyric Theatre on October 24. The mut-y is needed for saving valuable lives, so don't hesitate.

The Kaipara Steamship Company have kindly placed the e.s. Ruawai at the disposal of tile • Helensville Red Cross Committee for an excursion down the Harbour on Sunday next, 29th September The steamer leaves the Wharf at 9 a.m., and will return about 5 p.m. Return fare 2/-, and children half-price. The Committee appeals to ths public to make a special effort to attend, and make a bumper success of the day. The Kazoo Band will be in attendance in fancy costume.

The Waitemata County Council on Tuesday considered a recommendation from its engineer (Mr G. A. Jackson), to acquire an option to purchase 5% acres for £1,000, or 8^ acres for £1,450, of the Oakley quarry, Avondale, for a quarry. The price of the option was set down at £50, this sum and all the royalties to be part of the purchase money in the event of the Council deciding to purchase either property. After discussion the recommendation was adopted.
