The First Auckland Military Medical Board aat at Helensville yesterday, and examined about fifty reservists, but only half the numbtr passed as fit. A farewell social will be tendered Privates It. Constable and R. Fitield in the Star Theatre on Friday evening next. All returned soldiers heartily welcome. The Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Averill) will preach on Sunday next at St. Matthew's Church, Helensville, at 7 p.m., at Kaukapakapa at 11 a.m., and at Parakai at 2.45 p.m. The Methodist service at Parakai will be held at 11 a.m. instead of the afternoon. The annual meeting of the Awaroa Bowling Club will be held in the Lyric Theatre supper room on Friday, 27th September. A team of footballers from Batley paid Helensville a visit on Saturday last to try conclusions with the local boys. After a very interesting game, the result was Batley 11 points, Helensville 6. The proceeds went to the patriotic funds. On Monday, 16th inst.,l at the Star Theatre at 8 p m., Bishop Averill will give a lecture on Palestine, illustrated by lantern views. Parishoners and riends are invited to meet the Bishop ifterwards at supper. In a letter recently received from] fergt. G. The Helensville Red Cross Effort Committee will take full advantage of Election Day to raise funds. A general Committee meeting is being held tonight, when recommendations from subcommittees will be received and action decided upon. Voters may rest assured that no effort will be spared to get the " nimble sixpence," and after they have done their duty as citizens it is hoped they will liberally support the cause we all have, or should have, at heart.

At the meeting of the Aucklaud Presbytery, held at St. David's Presbyterian Church, the call to the Helensville Oha rge was accepted by the Rev. Wm. Butterworth of Tuakau. The induction service will take place at St. Andrew's, Helensville, on Thursday, October 10, at 7.30 p.m. The Moderator, Rev. W. J. Shaw, M.A., will officiate, and will be assisted by the Revs. Jas. Pattison, R. Somerville, and G. B. Inglis. A hearty invitation is extended to all interested in th» cause.
