UNDENOMINATIONAL CHURCH ARMY HUTS.

THE Rev. Bergin, a returned wounded N.Z. Army Chaplain, addressed a large audience in the Star Theatre on July 25th^| He explained the great comfoijfSl these Huts were to the meri;: ' especially those coming from the firing line. Hot drinks were always available, also games, music, and reading matter. They are also used for Divine Services by all creeds, and if necessary for dressing stations and hospital. During the last German advance the Huns destroyed 100 of these, and efforts are now being made to replace them. Each hut costs £500, and Auckland Province will rebuild 10. Mr Bergin stated that he was meeting with a hearty response. Whangarei had' -undertaken to find one, Dargaville one, and smal) towns North of Auckland one. It was mentioned that Te Aroha had found over £700, and Warkworth had sent £78 without being asked. Mr Bergin's talk of life in the front trenches was listened to with- the greatest interest, and after a hearty vote of thanks and a few seasonable words of appreciation by Mr James Stewart, seconded by Mr Spinley, a committee was formed, and it was decided to raise at least £100 by the end of August. Mr J. F. Lambert, Chairman of the Town Board, was Chairman. Mr Bergin, later in the evening, addressed those present at a social in the Agricultural Hall, and was promised unanimous support.
