POISON.
A man down South (but who is not unknown in Auckland) tells a strange story about Dr. yon Mirbach, a brother of the German Ambassador in Moscow who was recently assassinated. Dr. yon Mirbach was, many years ago, a lesident of Wellington, where he practised his profession. During thi^time a lady living in the " Empire City " was taken ill, and although doctor after doctor was consulted with reference to her malady not one of them could tell what was the matter with her. And she steadily got worse. And then Dr. yon Mirbach, " the German doctor," as he was called, was summoned to the patient, and after watching the case (in which he was keenly interested), for some time, he discovered the cause of the lady's mysterious illness. She was being slowly poisoned by absorbing the arsenic contained in the rich green paper on the walls of her bed-room. She was removed to another room —and soon completely recovered.
