MARKET REPORT
MESSRS J. J. Jones, Auctioneers, City Market, Auckland, report as follows : — The market this week has been very good, and a large volume of business has been put through. The poultry market was heavily supplied, and better prices are ruling. All good killable birds are in strong demand. We quote: POULTRY Hens, good heavy 3s to 3s 7d, good 2s 5d to 2s lid, pullets (according to breed and forwardness) 3s to 5s Id, ordinary 2s 6d to 3s 3d ; ducks, 3s to 5s Id; roosters, heavy 4s 6d to 5s 6d, good 4s to 4s sd, small 2s to 3s ; geese, 5s 6d to 7s ; turkey, gobblers 9s to 12s, hens 4s to ss. Pigs —Market easier, 5s 6d to 12s 9d. FARM PRODUCE Potatoes, Southern £8 to £10, local £5 to £6 5s ; swedes, £3 ; kumeras, 7s to 8s ; pumpkins, £4 to £5 ; mellons, £4. DAIRY PRODUCE Butter, ls-2d; eggs, 2s 5d to 2s 7d; cheese, 10^d to ll^d ; hams (Is l%d ; sides, Is Id to Is 2d; honey, sections, 4s 6d to 6s 3d, , x GRAIN Maize, 7s 9d; wheat, 7s 9d ; oats, 5s 9d ; bran, £8 10s ; oats, Algerian, 6s 6d ; chaff, Southern, £11 to £12 10s. FRUIT Apples, cookers 5s to 7s 9d, dessert 5s to 11s, according to quality ; lemons, 8s to 14s 6d; passion fruit, 12s ; Island oranges 9s 6d to 13s.
