SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE.

HELENSVILLE BRANCH

A MEETING of the above was held in the Helensville Public Library on Thursday evening last, when there was a large attendance of members and others present.

The meeting decided to support the Auckland League's resolution to the effect that physical fitness should be the sole test for active service, and to support the Government in adhering to the principle of winning the war, even to the last man and the last shilling.

At the same time, the meeting thought the time had arrived for more drastic steps to be taken in regard to the exemptions of First Division and Class A, Second Division, reservists, as at the present time there were quite a number in the small Helensville district whose exemptions should be revised before men with families were asked to break up their homes.

To meet the demand for combing out, and to assist the military representative on the Military Service Board, an Intelligence Committee (Messrs Lambert, R. Nicholls, J. Stewart, H. Aitkenhead, H. Graham, N, Wallace, and H. Thompson) was formed to review the bona fides of every exempted reservist in the Helensville district, and to support or object to any appeals that may come forward.

At a meeting of this Committee a list of names of exempted reservists was laid on the table, and it was resolved to write to the Military Service Board for informotion in regard to the nature of exemptions of aboiit twenty reservists. The matter of conscription of alien labour was also discussed.
