WAITEMATA COUNTY
COUNCIL MEETING.
THE Waitemata County Council met on Friday last, the Chairman, Mr H. Aitkenhead, presiding.
The Engineer asked whether the £925 subsidy on the available Government grants for work in the Pukeatua Riding, amounting to £975, could be provided by the Council. He was instructed to confer with the member for the Riding, Mr T. Foley.
It was resolved to purchase five acres of quarry site at Oakley Creek, Point Chevalier, at a price of £1050, provided suitable terms are arranged/
The Engineer reported that the constitution of the Kaipara River drainage area had been delayed owing to the Council not having defined the boundaries of the area. It was decided to adopt the boundaries shown en the plan attached to the petition asking for the constitution of the area, with one alteration, excluding Mr V. Kerr-Taylor's holding on the Waikoukou stream.
Contracts were let as follows: — Widening Mountain Road, Henderson, and putting in earthenware "culverts, £240 ; ; earthwork and putting in concrete culvert on Plumer Road, £143; earthwork on the Wainui-Kaukapa-kapa Road (loan work), £323 14s
It was reported that the following contracts had been let — Metalling Wainui-Kaukapakapa Road (loan work), scale cf prices submitted by J. W. Forrest; repairs to Henderson Gum Reserve roads, £421 ss. The expenditure of £60 to make Kahihatea Flat Road, Pukeatua Riding, passable was authorised.
Authority was given the Riding members to have the road on Don Buck's Hill, Henderson, made passable immediately.
It was reported that authority for the expenditure of the following Government grants had been received :—Wharepapa-Ohiranm Road, £100, £for£ ; Riverhead bridge approach £50; Wade-Dairy Flat Road, £200, £ for £ ; WainuiKaukapakapa Station Road £180 *Qf™ £ ; Henders°n Block Roads
The balance-sheet fo r the financial year ended March 31 last was returned fro m the Auditor-General with two tags the principal being that the payment of interest on the mortgage on the Waitakere quarry site was illegal.
