NATIONAL VOLUNTARY ECONOMY CAMPAIGN.

FOREWARD

DURING this period of strain and stress caused by the war, it is of the utmost importance that economies in small things, as well as large, should be sternly and rigidly practised. Vast financial obligations have been assumed by the Dominion in assisting the Empire. Further ym obligations lie before us. At'fl every poirt, therefore, it behoves the population of New Zealand to prepare for the further trials that await us. The proposals of this Association go in the direction of, advising heads of families and others how to save in small things, and it is in the multitude of little economies that our national tendency should go. The responsibility of economy in larger things rests with the Government and local bodies I warmly commend the practical vi effort being made to stimulate " and encourage national thrift. 0. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs. Wellington, Dec. 24, 1917.
