AWAROA BOWLING CLUB

NOTES ON THE GAME.

On Boxing Day a very enjoyable game was played on the Club's green between v a team of Porisonby^ players and a team fcom our local Club, Messrs Good, Hodgson, Jones, . and ixardner (skip) represented ihe Ponsonby Club, and Messrs Nuttall, Stringer, Garry, an^ Cullens (skip) the Awaroa CJjjJfl The local players went off wfflfi^l -the lead, scoring six to their .opponents nil at the first four heads. At the fifth head the local men were lying four when the skips took up their position for play. Cullens playing -first',.. put in a nice wing baulk. ' Gardner (Ponsonby) then drove, and with a masterly stroke made a dead heat of it. At the sixth head Ponsonby opened their score with 2. The local men I added 2 at the seventh hea'd,^ making -the game 8 to % itf Awaroa's favour. At the 14th head Awaroa had increased their lead to 13 to Ponsonby's 6. At the 16th head Ponsonby scored, 4, making the totals Awaroa 14, Ponsonby 10. Awaroa stuck to ' their game, finally winning by 17 to their opponents'l4. Both teams played a good solid game. The Ponsonby playerswere loud in their praise of the green, the Ponsonby skip stating that he did not think there was a green in Auckland to compare with it, and that the green superintendent and caretaker deserved every credit for-ib^** work that they must have put into it. .:-.-..' Several otter games were indulged in by local and visiting players. A few ladies dispensed afternoon tea, and a very hearty vote of thanks; carried by acclamation,,was accorded them.: ; . .COMPETITIONS. > . The following entries have been received for the Championship Singles :—Messrs Cullens, Ellett, Garry, Hammond,. Hill, Nuttall, Sandin, Smith and Stringer. The draw for. the Pairs Competition resulted as follows :— Messrs Aitkenhead and Dwerryhouse, Cullens and Nuttall, Eilett and Sandin/lgarry and Mouat, Hammond aJid|B»p, Smith and Hunt, Stringier table. - The fqit&wfnjj^fjplay for the First Year Plajge^Com petition : —Messrs Hunt, Mouat, Sandin, and Screaton.

For the '•Roosters,? Messrs Cullens and Bishop play Stringer and Sandin.

On Saturday afternoon a team of visiting bowlers from the Springs played a full rink match on the Awaroa Club's green, the Club winning by the small majority of one. :
