EUCHRE AND DANCE.
THE monthly euchre socials promoted by the Helensville Catholic Church Committe have become deservedly popular, and that held in the Star Theatre on Monday evening last proved no exception, a most enjoyable time being spent, though the attendance was not quite so large as on previous occasions. About fifty sat down to the cards tables, and some thirteen games vrere played, all being keenly contested. Mrs Healey was the highest scorer among the ladies, with ten games to her credit, and was presented with a handsome silver-mounted mirror. The Rev. Father O'Doherty was the best of the gentlemen players, winning eleven games, and becoming the recipient of a silver match-box, for which he returned thanks in an amusing little speech. Consolation prizes were awarded to Miss Wilkins, and. Mr E. McGarvey, who greatly appreciated the little souvenirs they received. A dainty supper was handed round, and left nothing to be desired. An enjoyable dance followed, Miss Rimmer supplying the music, and Messrs McAnnalley acting as Ms.C.
