ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES.
A STRANGE young Maori, with a bandaged foot, and propelling himself with the aid of crutches, made -his. appearance in Helensville on Monday last, and announced to all and sundry that he was a returned soldier, having received his injuries in the " Big Push " at the Somrae just 12 months ago, and had just arrived back in New Zealand by the hospital ship, Maheno. After a sojourn here, far ,a : couple of days, his actions caused an information to be laid to the police, and, as a result, Constable Hunt arrested him on a charge of •obtaining money under false • pretences. As there is some doubt as to the young man's statement regarding being a returned soldier, Constable Hunt proceeded to Auckland with his prisoner this morning, where further inquiries will be made.
