RESERVISTS' APPEALS.

The, -First, Auckland Military •• Service Board on Monday resumed the hearing of two applications for exemption and leave, which may be of interest to our readers. . . '-,- ; .. —Serving the PublicJohn Oswald Schischka, Puhoi (Mr Hall Skelton), stated he was the sole manager of a general store and butchery business. His father was an old man, and there was no other member of the family who could undertake the management of the store. Settlers throughout ■the Waiwera district would suffer considerable hardship if, the store were closed, this is inevitable if appellant were taken for service. The Board expressed the opinion that appellant was serving the public in his present position, and in view of the assistance he was rendering to settlers did not feel justified in closing the business. Exemption sine die was granted. —His Fourth Appearance^An application for leave of absence was made by Benedick Scholium, farmer, Puhoi (Mr Hall Skelton). The fact that this was the fourth occasion on which appellant had appeared before the Board was commented on by members, Scholium having previously expressed himself perfectly satisfied with leave until September, in order to be on the farm during the lambing season. The Board decided' that it could make no further recommendation for leave.
