AEROPLANE COMING THIS WAY.

IT is proposed by the President of the North Auckland Development Board, in the near future, to give a public demonstration of the practical possibility of an Aerial Mail Service. Colonel Bell has made preliminary arrangements for an aeroplane flight from Auckland to the Far North during the first two weeks -in January, calling at Helensville en route. The cost of the trip will be £1000, and this seems a reasonable one, seeing the risks to be taken. In the first •place- the - cost of the machine will be £3000, and no insurance can be taken on either machine, pilot or passengers. The only bu9iness-like method of carrying out the scheme will be to form Committees .at 'the. various stopping places to get guarantees from the more progressive citizens for stated amounts. The apportionment would be somewhat as follows:— '■■':■. .'■■ ■ \ £ Warkworth District ... 50 ; Whangarei ~ .... 225 Russell „ y ... 50 Whangaroa „ ... 50 Mangonui „ ' ... 50 Kaitaia . „. . ... 100 Kohukohu and Ravvene ... -125 Dargaville ... 225 Helerisville and other , places Kaipara Harbour 125 -' ■■■''' £1,000
