CONCRETING OUR CHANNELS.
SOME years ago works were carried out by the Helensville Town Board under a progressive system. In several parts of the town small sections of water-tables were laid down in concrete, and it was the intention of the commissioners then in power to continue this work as money was available. Now, up to the present time those sections laid down have not cost the Board one penny for repairs As to cleaning up, a few showers of rain soon wash away any debris that may collect during the dry weather. One has only to look round and notice the difference between the concrete channelling and the drains that are overgrown with grass and weeds. It costs the Board a large sum in cleaning out these drains, and in six months time they are as bad as ever. There are one or two parts in a very bad state of repair; in fact, they have become washouts, which are getting deeper and deeper with every shower of rain. There is no getting away from the fact that concrete channelling in the township is a decided success, and the sooner this progressive movement is carried out the better for all concerned.
