Following the bombardment which lasted several days Sir Douglas Haig attacked on a front of over 15 miles north of Ypres and as far south as the River Lye. French troops to the north acted in co-operation and protected the British left flank The British have already counted over 3500 prisoners, A feature of the battle was the support given to the infantry by tanks and the rapidity with which the guns were moved up to the new ground.
