A WAIL FROM THE SETTLER.
" I have never seen the roads outsiaj the township in such a bad state as thl? are at the present time," said a settia the other day. " I do not reside vet far away, but it is impossible for me ti use a vehicle now. I have to come in ts do my business on horse-back, and mi ■wife and family are consequently shl up till fine weather comes along ari hardens the roads again. To mai matters worse, more cattle are drive through to Auckland during the winta months than in the summer time. It f the mobs of cattle that do all tl damage to our roads, and this state i things should not be allowed. Catti coming down from Dargaville by bos should be entrained to Auckland durinj the winter, and thereby lighten th traffic a little, as the main thoroughfare! are bad at the best of times." §r
