THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, JUNE 28, 1917 HELENSVILLE'S HEROES.
TRULY this is a year of sorrow for our nation, and young New Zealand'is also receiving a share,. Columns and columns have appeared in the daily papers of the dead and wounded who have fallen at the hands of the enemy. Coming nearer home, our township has been hard hit within the last week or two, quite a number of local lads having been wounded, while three have made the supreme sacrifice. Much sympathy is extended to the parents who so ungrundingly gave these brave boys to keep our nation on top,, There are parents living on the land who could ill-afford to part with these lads and during their absence have to employ outside labour. One and all are praying each day for their safe return from the battlefield, and what a welcome they would have. But, sad to say, among the numberless graves on French soil many contain the bodies of our New Zealanders, and Helensvine is included on the list. -
