Helensville, June 27th,. 1917

THEFT OF AN UMBRELLA. Two young men named Richard Astle and William Birkland, who had been in Helensville recently in connection with military matters, were charged with having stolen an umbrella, the property of Miss Hafford. The accused both pleaded not guilty, and in their evidence stated that it was only a joke in removing the umbrella. After evidence was given by witnesses, the Bench decided to convict, and each were fined £1 10s and costs.
