HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD.

THURSDAY, JUNE 14th, 1917

PRESENT Comrs. J. F. Lambert (chairman), H. Thompson, H. Graham, H. Aitkenhead, E. T. Field, and the clerk (Mr W. F. Raisher). Com. A. Becroft was granted leave of absence. MINUTES Minutes of previous meeting were Teacl and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Outward correspondence was confirmed. DRAINAGE On the motion of Com. Field, seconded by the Chairman, Mrs Cuthbert was to be informed that the Board's proposal to lay sewer along Nelson Street had fallen through, and that she be asked to connect with Awaroa Road sewer. —Carried. IMPROVEMENTS In reply to a letter from Mr F. Tucker, the Board decided to form and shell the path on the western side of First Avenue. It was resolved that the Board's men do the work requested by Mr W. W. L. Bradly, and that he bear the cost of same. Resolved that the Road Committee inspect work requested by the G-olf Club, and if the same does not cost over £5 to have it done. RATES On the motion of Com. Thompson, seconded by Com. Aitken-, head, Messrs Masefield and Son be advised that no reduction in rates would be made. A REQUEST Proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Com. Thompson— That the Waitemata County Council be asked to form a road as far as the Horse-shoe bush. — Carried. BUILDING PERMIT The Clerk's action in granting building permit for extension to the Dairy Factory office was confirmed. PUBLIC POUND On the motion of Com. Field , seconded by Com. Aitkenhead, it was resolved —That the pound be put in order, and that the notice board be repainted. Proposed by Com. Field and seconded by Com. Graham —That Mr Hafford be instructed to cease work half-an-hour earlier on three days a week for two weeks in order to look after straying cattle, and also lay information against offending owners. CEMETERY MATTERS Proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Com. Aitkenhead — That a trough and ballcock to furnish water to cemetery be procured. Proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Com. Thompson— That steps be cut at entrance to cemetery, and when completed the Board to avail itself of Mr Hunter's offer to cart shell free of cost. Mr Hunter to be thanked. A GENEROUS OFFER It was proposed by Com. Field, seconded by Com. Aitkenhead— That Mr Sproston be appointed Dog Tax collector in terms of his application that he be allowed 1/6 per collar, which he undertakes to donate to the Public Library for the purchase of new books. Mr Sproston to be thanked.

DOG COLLARS It was resolved that the Clerk be instructed to get prices for dog collars from local saddlers, and to place order with lowest tenderer. KAIPARA BRIDGE It was resolved that a letter be drafted to the Governor, asking His Excellency to consent to a loan for payment of Board's share of cost of Kaipara Bridge, and asking that the rate of interest be fixed at 5^ per cent. METAL It was resolved on the motion of Com. Aitkenhead, seconded by the Chairman —That one truck of metal chips be ordered. RAILWAY LAMP Com. Field proposed and Com. Graham seconded—That the Railway Department's attention be drawn* to the fact that they have failed to keep to their promise to have the lamp lighted at the entrance gate at the station. NOTICES OF MOTION Com, Thompson gave notice to move at the next meeting—-That the Board's meetings start at 7.30 in future instead ofßp ? m, as heretofore. The Chairman gave notice to move at the next meeting—That general and hospital rate for the ensuing year be struck at same

rates as previous year (general Id, hospital 3-16 din £); same to be advertised. THE LOAN RATE Com. Field proposed, seconded by Com. Aitkenhead —'That no rate be struck on the £3000 loan. Carried.

FIRE INSPECTOR The Captain of the Fire Brigade (Mr Robinson) waited on the Board re position as Fire Inspector. On the motion of the Chairman,, seconded by Com. Field, it was resolved to give Mr Robinson authority to act in such capacity. FINANCE Accounts amounting to £182 0s 4d were passed for payment.
