A FALLEN HERO.
LETTER OF SYMPATHY,
THE following letter has been received by Mrs J. Mcßride, of Kaukapakapa, in reference to the death of her late son, who was killed while on active service in France:— New Zealand Camp, Codford, Wiltshire, Ist December, 1916. Dear Mrs Mcßride, —Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of Andy. It was a great blow to us all, and his loss will be felt very much by the Platoon and all his comrades, He was in charge of a section when we went over, and when I was hit I handed over the remnants of the Platoon that were with us for him to take charge. I may tell you that he was offered promotion on*two or three different occasions, but refused, as he thought he might have to leave his comrades who had fought alonside him for so long. If there is anything you wish to know about him I would be only too pleased to help, that is if I am spared long enough, as a man's life is not his own two seconds in France. Again tending, my deepest sympathy.—Your sincerely, G. Murray, Sergt.
