WEDDING BELLS,
GARDNER—ELVIN
A typical military wedding took place on Tuesday, 24th inst., at the Makarau School, the contracting parties being Private R. A. Gardner, of 29th Reinforcements, and Miss Daisy Elvin, of Makarau. The building was tastefully decorated with flags and bunting, and a large gathering of friends of both parties were present. The Rev. L. J. Hodson, of Helensville, was the officiating minister. The bride, who looked happy and charming, was gowned in creme satin with overdress of lace and pearls, wore the orthodox wreath and veil, and carried a shower boquet. The bridesmaid, Miss J. Gardner, sister of the bridegroom, was becomingly dressed in cream crepe de chene, with blue hat, and also carried a shower bouquet. After the ceremony the whole company adjourned to the Makarau Hall, where a sumptuous repast was partaken of. Mr T. W. Hooper had charge of the toasts, which were as follows :—" The King," Mr F. J. Elvin; "The Bride and Biidegroom," Rev. L. J. Hodson, replied to by the groom; " Bridesmaid," Private R. A. Gardner, replied to by the best man ; " Parents of the Bride," Mr Jas. Drinnan, replied to by Mr F. J. Elvin ; " Guardian of the Bridegroom," Mr H. father, replied to by Mr H. A- H/ooper \ ••• Boys at the Front,'-'' (Serg't. Pat Gardner, Sergt. Hooper, and "Corpl. H. Elvin), Mr T. H[. Marks ; "Sweethearts and Wives," Mr T. W. Hooper- ''Fallen 'Heroes," Rev. L. J. Hudson.
The happy couple left for Wellington during the afternoon, with the well-wishes of their many friends. The presents were numerous and valuable, and included a number of cheques.
