DISTRICT NEWS.
KUMEU [own correspondent] A MEETING was held in the Kumeu Public Hall on March 21st., to discuss ways and means of installing a telephone exchange. The was a good representation of residents. The Chairman briefly outlined the scheme. The meeting adopted the proposals, and guaranteed the money required. The Kumeu Cemetery has been allowed to get in a very rough state, being overgrown with fern and manuka; and the tall slender pine trees surrounding the two and a-half acres by no means added anything to the beauty of this sacred spot. Mr Boucher^ the recently appointed agent under the Helensville Diocese, asked the residents of Kumeu to assist in beautifying the grounds out of respect to the 150 bodies who rested there. The request was met by generous response, and last Thursday two surveyors of Mr Harrison's staff arrived on the grounds to survey drives, footpaths, etc., The working bee busily engaged themselves in clearing, whilst the survey pegs were quickly driven into place, and tombstones, fences, etc., once more appeared in view. Mr Boucher intends tarring and sanding the footpaths, and having the sections properly pegged out. This wurk involves considerable expense, and he invites those who have an interest in this cemetery and are unable to give labour to forward donations to the agent (Mr Boucher, Kumeu), and so assist in completing the much-needed improvements,
